Chicago, IL | May 31, 2010 | www.ciogc.org - The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) strongly condemns the massacre committed by the Israeli forces in International waters against civilian humanitarian activists who were on the "Gaza Freedom Flotilla" to deliver humanitarian aid. The unprovoked Israeli attacks occurred at night, and, based on current reports, massacring 20 unarmed civilian humanitarian activists and injuring over 60.

The use of military force by Israel in international waters against peace activists on the Flotilla is a provocation to the international community and violates humanitarian values and international law.

CIOGC calls on the Administration to hold Israel responsible for this massacre of civilian peace activists, and to demand that Israel immediately ends the siege of Gaza.

Over 600 individuals, on six ships, were aboard the Flotilla, and all whom have been re-directed to Israel where they face deportation and/or criminal charges. A number of American citizens were amongst the activists.
The Council urges the Muslim community in Illinois and our faith and civic partners to join all people of conscious in condemning the Israeli massacre of peace activists and to call our administration and the Congress to protest the Israeli action against the aide Flotilla, hold Israel accountable for the massacre, and demand an immediate end to the starvation and collective punishments of Palestinians in Gaza
